Manipur is the North-Easternmost State of India. The State is bounded by Myanmar on the east, Nagaland on the north, Assam and Mizoram on the west, Mizoram and Myanmar on the south. It is inhabited by different ethnic groups consisting of Meiteis, Meitei Pangals, 29 other recognised tribes, 7 Sheduled Castes etc. Manipur is well introducing to the World through its colourful classical and folk dances. The Raasa Dance, Lai Haraoba Dance, Pung Cholom and other colourful tribal dances of Manipur are of world fame. Manipur originated the modern POLO game. The places of surpassing attractions include Manipur’s superb panorama of evergreen hill ranges, soil of Khongjom soaked with sacred blood of the martyrs, the Kohinoor of Manipur-the Loktak Lake (Largest fresh water lake in N.E. India), the natural habitat of Sangai, the brow antlered deer at Keibul Lamjao National Park, INA Memorial at Moirang, where Indian National Tricolour Flag was unfurled for the first time, Siroy Hill, Ima Keithel (the unique women’s market), the gold - domed Shree Shree Govindajee Temple and the colourful Khonghampat Orchid, include several rare species add to the colour of spring Imphal is conected by air directly from New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Silchar and Aizawl. The valley is also connected by roadways to Dimapur, Silchar and Guwahati. The nearest railway stations are Jiribam and Dimapur. Entry formality is required for foreign tourists only. Inner Line permit required for all tourists from other states for crossing Nagaland, if travel by road from Dimapur. The hottest months in Manipur are May, June and July. The coolest months are December and January. The temperature of Manipur during the month of March is moderate and ranges from 15°C to 25°C. Woolen clothes are required during November to March. |
